Singing in the Dark

Can you sing when everything’s gone wrong?

Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into the deepest part of a jail in Philippi, feet locked in wooden stocks. At midnight they prayed and sang hymns, and the other prisoners listened. Then an earthquake shook the doors open and the chains loose. Nobody ran. The jailer, about to hurt himself, heard Paul shout, “We’re all here!” He asked how to be saved, and that night his whole household was baptized and shared a meal.
